Here at Moneystepper, we are always looking for new ways to earn additional income to help accelerate our progress toward our financial goals. For some people, this may be the paying down of debt, for others it might be to invest more. Whatever your financial goal, earning that extra income (especially online) will help you reach those goals.
And today we investigate the latest way I’ve learned to make extra money: online testing. The premise is simple: record a video with audio of yourself reviewing a website or product and get paid for doing so.
Start Testing Online Today With UserTesting.com
The best site that I’ve found for this is UserTesting.com.
Anyone can sign up for free to become a tester. All you need to do is register your details and record a short video of you testing a sample website. You don’t need any special equipment and all the software that you need is provided for you when you register.
Once you get approved (which is based on the quality of your sample submission, you will start receiving real (and paid) tests to complete.
Users can earn up to $10 for every 15-20 min review. So, if you complete 3 tests per week (about an hour a week), it adds up to over $1500 per year.
While most testers initially sign up with UserTesting.com for the money, many of them continue to do tests because it’s fun to provide helpful opinions. Testers can see their ratings and feedback from clients. Testers get to see the new ideas that clients are coming up with and help clients make their sites and apps more user-friendly.
Additionally, testers often see very obvious mistakes that Fortune 500 companies have overlooked while designing their site. Being able to provide this value, whilst earning additional income, is a huge positive for testers. Testers know their feedback will go on to affect millions of people. UserTesting.com’s clients include Google, Facebook, Target, Sony, eBay, Yahoo, Home Depot, Twitter, Dell, Staples and many more.
How many tests can I expect?
It’s tough to give an exact number because different clients are looking for a specific kind of person based on demographic. However, taking 2-4 tests per week isn’t out of the norm and this could equate to around $1000-2000+ per year.
It should be a fun activity you do in your spare time to earn a little extra cash. Many of the “Get paid to fill out surveys” companies pay $0.25-$2 per survey and it’s not particularly interesting work. However, UserTesting pay $10 for every 15-20min review and you get to speak your thoughts aloud while following a series of tasks. The best testers take their time, think about each task and what they are supposed to evaluate, and help provide useful feedback.
The Application Process
As I said, signing up is easy. Simply:
- Signup at with UserTesting.com at the following page
- You will receive an email with a link to download the screen recorder software
- Download the software
- Start your sample test. It will automatically upload to UserTesting.com.
- Within a couple of days your sample test will be reviewed. If you’re accepted you fill out your demographic info and can start taking real tests for money!
My own experience with UserTesting.com
Not satisfied with simply telling you about how good UserTesting.com is, I thought it might be useful if I showed you!
I have myself signed up to the service in the past and whilst I don’t have the video to show you, I can confirm that it takes no longer than 20 minutes from start to finish.
What I can show you is a recording of an actual test/review that I performed last week. Enjoy!!
