Regifting – should I do it?
A truly taboo subject!! Regifting is considered by many to be a terrible deed!
But, what if someone has bought you a tremendous gift, but it just isn’t “you”. However, it is a gift which is perfectly suited to someone else you know. In this scenario, regifting would seem like a good idea.
However, what if you offend the recipient of the gift? What if you offend the person who gave you the gift? There are many obstacles to avoid when giving a gift you have received to another person.
Top 5 rules of regifting
Luckily, Gumtree have put together a funny little infographic to lead us through the dos and donts of regifting!
What do you guys think about regifting? When should you do it? When is it wrong? Have you ever been “caught”?
If think its a great idea if done properly like the infographic suggests. I’ve done it recently and it worked in my situation as I really don’t have spare cash for gifts at the moment.
This past Christmas I had a friend totally regift something to me because it was something I totally could not use! It was a case for a later version of the iPhone…which I do not own! She said, oh just save it for when you do upgrade. So awkward. Not if I had put out a message on FB or something that said, “I hope I get a new case for the newest iPhone…” lol! It’s moments like that regifting does not work.
I just don’t know if I could do it… I’d be way too worried about slipping up and regifting something back to the original person. My memory is dreadful!
Haha, I’ve posted about re-gifting before (or rather, Karen has on Suburban FInance). I think it’s fine as long as it wasn’t a personalized gift and hasn’t been used.
